Reality
Thesis project, UniBz, Bozen

“Reality” is an installation of lights and sounds in relation with the space. Its goal is to make the visitors reflect on the difference between live and mediated reality.
For this purpose, there are three simultaneous situations; in each one of them, the word “REALITY” indicates the present reality itself, live or mediated. The spectator is led to experiment the limits of both.
In the first situation, the reality is lived: thanks to an optical system that prevents camera usage, it is not possible to take pictures.
On the contrary, in the second it is mediated: the only way to access it is through a smartphone (AR) that elaborates the spatial relations. Thus it is possible to take pictures of what is in the screen and people have to watch it in order to live the experience.
The third situation can be lived or mediated: it is a temporary modification of reality that happens randomly, without warning. Therefore the visitors have to wait, and when it turns on, they have to make a choice: take a picture or live it. The modification is achieved through a combination of projections and sounds, which act on the perspective of the room creating a disorienting effect on the visitors.
